Waiapu Kids St Matthew’s is located in the central business district of Hastings, Hawke’s Bay, sharing grounds with St Matthew’s Church and Primary School. We serve the community and participate in many different community events. Doing this provides a benefit where our teachers can access useful resources and information resulting in wider learning outcomes for the children. Our local community enriches the children’s learning, our children experience regular excursions to the St Matthew’s Church and Primary School, park, library and we have a relationship with Heretaunga Seniors who we visit and foster trans-generational learning.
Waiapu Kids St Matthew’s provides quality care and support for children ages 0-5 years. Our centre supports the time requirement of parents and caregivers so we operate in flexible hours. We are proud to offer 30 hours free to children aged 3 years and over (conditions apply) and very competitive rates.
At Waiapu Kids St Matthew’s, we promote reciprocal, positive interactions between our children of all ages. As a mixed age centre all children are encouraged to learn alongside one another in a safe environment and we value the concept of learning through a tuakana-teina relationship. We believe that this is an important aspect that helps our children learn cognitive, social and emotional skills and develop their imagination and self-esteem. Children share their knowledge and experiences as they interact with one another.
With our secure and engaging environment, our teachers provide various activities that allow children of mixed-age groups to socialise with each other. We encourage the participation of parents and families in our daily programme to support their children.

Waiapu Kids’ teachers inspire and encourage our children to discover and develop their interests and strengths. We celebrate every milestone so children feel appreciated and will be motivated to be the best that they can be. At Waiapu Kids St Matthew’s, we partner with St Matthew’s Primary School to provide a ‘transition to school’ programme which prepares our children to take the next step in their education as they start school and develop the skills they have learned from us.

Waiapu Kids is a wonderful centre to send your kids too. Both my children started at a very young age and they loved their time at Waiapu kids. I knew every time I left my kids that they were in the most loving, caring and professional hands of the staff. They offer many opportunities for the kids to learn while playing.
